Style justification.

One of the main challenges in my project has been translating pixellated representations of characters in to the style I wanted to use for my comic. I had decided to go with a very simple style, free from excess background clutter or character detail. As Scott McCloud mentions in his book, a realistic rendering of a character causes the viewer to see the face of another. In the world of the cartoon, the viewer sees themselves. As I wanted my comic to be a commentary on gamer behaviour, I wanted the characters to be able to represent gamers as a whole. Thus, I wanted to keep them simple, so that they could become vessels that reflected the viewer -- the gamer.
